INTERNATIONAL BALI MEDITATORS' FESTIVAL
ONE EARTH ONE SKY ONE HUMANKIND
Ubud: 12 – 14 November 2010

Time & Venue

The festival will be held on the 12nd – 14th of November 2010 (09.00 – 21.00 Bali Time) at Ubud.

Ubud is located 35 km northeast of Bali's International Airport. It is attractive to tourists for a variety of reasons. On a relatively small island with a horde of attractions, Ubud is centrally located, and even the closest beach is only 15 minutes away (Ubud map click here).

The Ubud area is around two- to three hundred meters above sea level and surrounded by rice fields, which makes it noticeably cooler than then other tourist destinations in Bali. Neighbouring villages are well known for unique bamboo crafts and furniture, wood- and stone carving and many other crafts.

Ubud is famous for it's regularly nightly traditional dance performances, which are part of the traditional culture and are arranged for tourists on a regular schedule. Hindu-Balinese ceremonies take place on a nearly daily basis, especially in the European summer, which is the driest and coolest season here.

Ubud is popular in part today because it is the best place in Bali to break out of the tourist mode and get off the beaten path, although far from undiscovered. Hotels are plentiful; home stays and Indonesian guesthouses are easily available to the foreign tourist. Many tourists simply base their entire stay in the city and travel to other destinations from Ubud.

Accommodations in Ubud are also somewhat more reasonably priced than in the beach towns of Bali. But atmosphere is perhaps the major attractions. One visitor summed it up this way: Kuta is madness, Sanur is sterile, and Nusa Dua is culturally isolated; Ubud is the place to go. (www.ubud.com)

Organizer: Anand Ashram Foundation

Anand Ashram, Centre for Holistic Health and Meditation, was founded by Anand Krishna in January 14, 1991. Inspired by Anand Krishna’s own experience after misteriously relieved from leukemia, the Centre aimed to introducing meditation as the foundation of holistic health, especially for those who lived in a big and busy city such as Jakarta.

Located in northern part of Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta, Anand Ashram has surprisingly attracted more and more people into meditation. Those who attended the meditation class varied from different kind of profession, ethnicity, and religion background. From taxi-driver to Chief Executive Officer, from Javanesse to Chinesse, from Moslem to Buddhist. Anand Ashram has itself experienced that meditation has no boundaries.

Just like a small tree grows bigger and bigger, so does Anand Ashram. Up until now, more than 20,000 people from 19 countries have attended meditation program, from “Stress Management”, “Neo Zen Reiki”, “Kundalini Yoga” and so on. One third of them followed full program, while the rest preferred to selected program. All meditation class, from “Stress Management” for beginners to “Neo Zen Training” and “Death Experience” for advanced practitioners are directly directed by Anand Krishna himself.

Responding to the growing enthusiasm on meditation not only from the people of Jakarta, but also from the provinces all over Indonesia, Anand Krishna started to write books on meditation in the mid of 90’s. More than 120 titles have been released in Indonesia’s book market, and at least 320,000 copies have been sold, inspiring many more people to learn and practice meditation.

For us in Anand Ashram, meditation does not correspond only to physical health. Only through meditation a higher consciousness — a consciousness necessary to resolve social, economical and political problems in Indonesia — can be realized. Meditation is the way of life.
